BIOBOTS – Biological Inspiration and the Emergence of Inteligence

2000-2001

Description: This project has as main objectives to create the necessary infrastructure for the study of biological phenomena and their recreation in the computational environment, making them accessible to new forms of experimental manipulation and tests. Generation of prototypes using computational paradigms recreated from hypotheses and evidences obtained from the study of biological paradigms.

2001-2003

Description: Throughout this work we have tried to study how to emerge intelligence aspects in RMIs through Nature-inspired models, such as Evolutionary Algorithms (AEs) and RNAs. This in itself was an extremely relevant and original contribution, since the amount of work worldwide seeks to address the problem of seeking tools for the development of RMIs, seeking to emerge aspects of intelligence through computational models inspired by natural systems is still relatively small. In addition, consistent definitions for the concept of intelligence, formal languages for behavioral description, learning mechanisms for neural networks that are biologically inspired, and modular and hierarchical organization of neural networks for the implementation of RMIs are original aspects that were addressed in this project of research. The main objective of this work was to implement an autonomous and adaptive Intelligent Mobile Robot, implemented using the ideas of Robotics Based on Behavior, having as control architecture the PiramidNet Architecture and that is able to feel and react to changes in the environment and learn from your experience through real-time reinforcement learning methods.
